UWHARRIE TRAIL AUDIO TOUR

Year of production: 2014
Number of episodes: 24
Running Time: 1 hr and 19 min
Podcast Episode by: Chris Moncrief with assistance from Rebecca Schoonover, Joe Moffitt, Uwharrie Trail and Three Rivers Land Trust partners and friends

As a part of my Eagle Scout Project when I was 15 years old, I created one of the first audio tours for a National Forrest hiking trail within North Carolina. Across 24 locations throughout the Uwharrie Trail, hikers can scan the QR code at the location with their smartphones to get a short story of what makes that spot so special. Hikers can also download the stories beforehand and listen as they reach the sites, since some of the locations are out of cell phone reception for some providers.

The main goal of this project was to document some of the stories and folklore of the Uwharries using the Uwharrie Trail as the link, to celebrate a shared natural and cultural heritage and sense of place in this area that is special to so many people. From the story of unique glade communities, to old firetowers, or even the ghosts of settler’s past; this auditory experience aspires to add to the enjoyment, magic, and beauty that you'll be presented throughout the Uwharrie landscape.
